The food concept behind this new restaurant and wine bar in George Street is ‘Playfully Italian’, with dishes incorporating classic Italian recipes, often with the playful addition of other elements, especially in the Cicchetti (small plates) offering. Owned by Mike and Matthew Lisanti, the idea of Manja Manja is inspired by the brothers’ Italian grandmother (or ‘Nonna’) who used to serve them up steaming plates of pasta as children, directing them in Italian to ‘mangia, mangia!’ (‘eat, eat’). From pizzetta and pasta to risotto and charcuterie boards, the menu is deliberately streamlined because (apart from the charcuterie, which is made locally) everything – including the pasta – is made fresh on site. This approach means that the emphasis is on the preparation and serving of fresh, high-quality food. Includes a carefully crafted wine list. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 12pm–3pm and 5pm–11pm.
